Where to find the best villas in Sardinia

The island is bigger than it looks: from the northern tip to the south coast is about four hours by car. Pick the region by the holiday you want.

North-east: Gallura and the Costa Smeralda

Granite coves such as Capriccioli and, near San Teodoro, the long La Cinta beach with a lagoon where flamingos gather. A good first Sardinia holiday, close to Olbia airport.

East: the Gulf of Orosei

Cala Gonone is the base for coves like Cala Luna and Cala Mariolu, mostly reached by boat. Cala Goloritzé is reached on foot; in summer access is limited.

South: Chia, Teulada and Villasimius

Dunes and shallow turquoise water at Chia, the bay of Tuerredda and, near Villasimius, Porto Giunco beach with flamingos in the lagoon behind it. Ideal for a family villa holiday.

West: Alghero, Stintino and Sinis

Alghero's old town, La Pelosa near Stintino — with limited, pre-booked access in summer — and Is Arutas with its quartz sand. Taking sand, shells or stones is forbidden in Sardinia.
